HTC Butterfly S officially unveiled
Packing a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, the previously leaked HTC Butterfly S is the upgrade to the original HTC Butterfly and the Japanese exclusive HTC J Butterfly that featured the world’s first full 1080p HD screen.
“We’ve upgraded the popular HTC Butterfly to reflect the new standards set by the HTC One for smartphone performance”, said HTC CEO, Peter Chou. “The HTC Butterfly changed the way people looked at a smartphone thanks to the world’s first full HD 1080p, 5-inch screen and that complete viewing experience has been taken to the next level with HTC BlinkFeed.”
HTC Butterfly S Features
Powered by a beefy 3,200mAh battery, the HTC Butterfly S has a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. This processor means the HTC Butterfly S is the same as the powerful Samsung Galaxy S4.
The HTC Butterfly S offers a 5-inch Full 1080p HD Super LCD 3 display with a pixel density of 441ppi, which is the same as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z.
Running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the HTC Butterfly S includes the HTC Sense 5 UI complete with HTC Zoe camera software and the media aggregator HTC BlinkFeed homescreen.
It packs the same UltraPixel camera technology as the HTC One and the dual front-facing HTC BoomSound stereo speakers.
Available in red, white and grey, the HTC Butterfly S measures in at 144.5 x 70.5 x 10.6mm and weighs 160g. This means it’s quite a bit chunkier than the HTC Butterfly, but that’s due to its whopper battery.
As for connectivity, there’s BlueTooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and NFC, although no mention of 4G LTE compatibility is mentioned.
HTC Butterfly S Release Date and Price
In the official HTC Butterfly S announcement, HTC states the 5-inch smartphone will be available in “select Asia Pacific markets” from July. However, it also states that the device will achieve global availability at some point, meaning UK shores could see the HTC Butterfly S at some point this year.
